The latest version of the popular DAW is available for download now
Ableton has announced the latest version of Live, 12.2. It is available to download now as a public beta.
12.2 brings significant updates to some long-running Devices inside Live and tweaks to its hardware partners, Move and Push. The biggest change for electronic music producers is likely the complete revamp of Auto Filter, Live’s long-running filter audio effect. The new version features real-time visualisation, and new filter types like DJ Filter which uses a single knob for both high pass and low pass filters, similar to those seen on Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta mixers. The device also has a whole new modulation section and, for the first time, is also available on Move and Note.
Elsewhere, a simple but very welcome new addition called Bounce to New Track lets you bounce a MIDI or audio track including all its processing, to a completely new track as audio only, while keeping the original intact. Bounce in Place is still available if you want to replace the existing track with the new bounced version.
A new Max for Live Device called Expressive Chords lets you play “interesting progressions intuitively” using one key or pad on your controller. It’s also MPE-compatible. Ableton 12’s Roar has added a new routing mode and filter type for more tweakability. In the Browser, new Quick Tags let you quickly edit, view and assign tags while the Filter view has been simplified.
Push-wise, Live 12.2 brings 16 Pitches, which lets you trigger samples in Drum Rack melodically, with added Fine control from Push’s MPE-enabled pads. Follow Actions are also now available on Push, as well as Bounce to New Track and Live’s Groove Pool.
Live 12.2 is currently in public beta and can be downloaded here. It’s a free update for owners of Live 12 and for any new users, Live 12 starts at €99 for Intro. Find out more about the new version on the Ableton website. Watch the video below to learn more about the new version of AutoFilter.
Late last year, Ableton launched a smaller version of Push, called Move, which can be used to create tracks on the go.
