The first repress of Utah Saints’ self-titled first album is packed with additional remixes from David Morales, CJ Bolland and Andrew Weatherall among others.
Pioneering electronic music duo Utah Saints are reissuing their debut album on Saturday, October 19 2024 for National Album Day in the UK.
Jez Willis and Tim Garbutt released their self-titled debut album in May 1993. Utah Saints, which cheekily pinched and jacked up samples from a number of well-known pop and rock tracks, peaked at #10 in the UK charts and had a moment in the US as a nearly weekly play on MTV’s 120 Minutes, spawning singles “Something Good” (sampling Kate Bush’s “Cloudbusting”) and “What Can You Do For Me” (featuring simples from the Eurythmics’ “There Must Be An Angel” and Gwen Guthrie’s “Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ on But The Rent”).
The reissue has been blown up to a double CD and 2xLP on vinyl with the addition of remixes by David Morales, CJ Bolland and Andy Weatherall.
One of the first live dance music stadium acts, Utah Saints are still active as performers, with upcoming performances at All Back to Minehead with Fatboy Slim (November 9), Shine On Weekender (November 16) and Love Unit 13 Nottingham (November 30).
The reissue is timed to release in accord with National Album Day, a UK event now in its 7th year created to celebrate the album format in an increasingly unbundled world. This year’s theme is “Great British Groups” and is partnering with BBC Radio 2 to celebrate them.
Utah Saints is out October 19 2024; pre-order/pre-save here and listen to a sneak peek of Soul Mass Transit System’s speed garage edit of “What Can You Do For Me” below:
