Jacob Arnold interviews about the classic Chicago club the Music Box precede a Ron Hardy mix from 1984 from the archives of DJ M-Traxxx.

Today marks 32 years since the passing of one of the greatest DJs in history. Ron Hardy died on this date, March 2, 1992.

In honor of Ronnie — universally venerated as among the most influential DJs in house music history — DJ M-Traxxx (Manny Cuevas) and Jacob Arnold have collaborated on a two part program featuring interviews and a never before heard Ron Hardy mix from the Muzic Box circa 1984.

Listen here:

The program features two interviews, with Byron Burke (Ten City) and David Britton conducted by Jacob Arnold about the experience of the Music Box, Robert Williams’ legendary Chicago club where Ron Hardy held court. Each interview then leads into the mix, which Manny Cuevas says he obtained from Nate Williams in 1995.

Manny is the uncredited source for a huge number of classic mixes that received a second life on the internet. Literally yesterday we tracked him down as the source of this classic Armando Gallop mix from WBMX that has been circulating on the internet since at least 2001.

This 40 year old recording brings home the fact that Ronnie has been gone nearly as long as he was alive. There should be statues of Ron Hardy both in Chicago and across the world to honor his importance in the critical early years of the house music scene. But until they carve it in granite, media and presentations like this loving tribute will serve as monuments of our own.
