Who is Cassandra Lucas?
Back on the scene–and topping the charts–the singing/songwriting talent, Cassandra Lucas. Cassandra is best known as one-half of the 90’s platinum-selling R&B vocal duo Changing Faces, who gave us hits such as “Foolin’ Around,” “Stroke You Up” and“G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T.” Their debut self-titled CD hit #1 on theBillboard R&B charts, and throughout their notable career, they sold millions of records, with 3 singles in the Top Tenon the Billboard charts, rare for a vocal duo. She’s returned in 2018 with her new, self-penned single, “Name On It,” which reached Top 20 on the BillboardUrban Adult Contemporary chart, bringing something new to her older fans and introducing her to large numbers of new fans. It’s a ballad of the type that’s been missing inR&B music lately. This graduate of the “Fame” high school in New York, who hails from East Harlem, has just released a new track house track called Summer Day that’s working it’s way up the charts
Q. Hey Cassandra it truly is a pleasure. your new hit Summer Day is out how are you feeling about it?
A. Hey, its a pleasure talking to you. I’m really excited about how well the new song is doing.
Q. So where are you from?
A. East Harlem Born and breed.
Q. When did you first start singing?
A: I started singing for play in my living room on top of the furniture with a brush in my hand at about 4 years old. With my Dad watching Soul Train 😄
Q. What drew you to the music industry?
A. Well, I attended a Performing Arts Middle School and LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts (“The Fame School) so I knew that I wanted to be in the industry in some capacity.
Q. Who were you inspired by?
A. Wow, that’s a long long list because honestly, I get inspiration from all forms of music Gospel, R&B, Country, etc.. but I was really inspired by all the music I grew up hearing in my house. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Donny Hathaway, Chaka Khan Al Green Sam Cooke and many more.
Q. Please explain your creative process to your fans?
A. Well, I usually like to be in the beginning process of a studio session when the music is being created and I can tell right then if the music speaks to me. Then if it does I will complete the song. If it doesn’t I’m off to the next idea. I don’t force it. It has to be there.
Q. If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?
A. Wow, that’s what I feel like I’m doing now. I’m dabbling in dance and I love it. It’s fun and freeing and makes me move. I also have a Contemporary Gospel song called “I Love You” so I’m open to exploring all forms of music because I don’t want to be pigeoned holed into any one genre I just want to do music.
Q. Do you have any future collaborations coming up or anyone you’d like to work with?
A. I don’t have anyone on the radar as we speak but I love to collaborate.
Q. So I ask every artist on the scene about staying power. Where do you see yourself in the future?
A. I take it day by day in this music industry. The possibilities are endless but I see myself self putting out more solo projects and touring the world doing what I love. This solo venture is very different for me but I’m excited to see where it takes me. They say you can plan all day but Gods Plan is the only plan so I will see what he has in store for me
Q. Lastly I’d like to say thank you again for sitting down with us here at My House Radio. I see great things in the future. Is there anything coming up that we should be looking out for or events?
A. Thank you so much for having me. I have some upcoming shows in Vegas in September and I’m in the process of completing 2 videos for my new music so please be on the lookout .. I post all events on my IG & Facebook page @iamcassandralucas. Be Blessed James.
